Treatment Options

Interventional Options

Our interventional options include minimally invasive, non-surgical injections to control your pain. These injections are very safe and performed under fluoroscopic (and ultrasound) guidance. We have performed more than 10,000 injections and obtained exceptional results.   Injections are used primarily for therapeutic effects but at times can be used for diagnostic purposes as well.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the oldest forms of medical treatment (it can be traced back nearly 2,500 years) and focuses on your body’s natural energy fields. We are certified to perform all types of acupuncture in New York State. Our specialty is electroacupuncture, where we stimulate certain analgesic points with electricity causing an amplified effect.

Pharmacological Modalities

As part of a multidisciplinary approach, medication therapy can be used in conjunction with other modalities for all pain management. Our initial approach is to prescribe conservative medications with little-to-no side effects; these include NSAIDS, muscle relaxants, neuropathic pain medications, pain patches and ointments.

Chiropractic & Physical Therapy

Once pain is diagnosed and under better control, the addition of chiropractic and physical therapy regimens can help prevent future injuries and avoid disease progression. We can conduct occupational assessments and offer you exercises for muscle and core strength. Modalities include: therapeutic ultrasound, manipulation, traction and spinal decompression, myofascial release and Pilates.

Psychological

Many times patients see us while being treated by their primary care doctor or other pain management doctor with high dose opioids which continue to be ineffective. They may feel it’s time to come off the painkillers. We can help in providing the patient other modalities to lower their pain so their medication usage decreases. If our patients continue to struggle with limiting their pain medications, we will refer them to addiction therapists. We work with the best therapists in the lower Westchester and NYC areas. Psychological treatments include: biofeedback, counseling, addiction treatments and hypnosis.

Surgical

Our first approach to any pain problem is to be as conservative as possible, and we encourage our patients to first pursue minimally invasive surgeries if possible. Seldom, a patient’s diagnosis may require us to refer him/her to an orthopedist or neurosurgeon for a consultation. This is especially true for any worsening weakness, numbness, or bowel and bladder dysfunction.   A second and even a third opinion from a surgeon may need to be obtained to better understand all the surgical options available.

Imaging Studies

Many patients come to see us without knowing the exact cause of their pain. To ensure that we identify the safest and most effective way to manage your pain, we can perform a variety of imaging modalities including, radiology studies, x-rays, CT scans and MRIs. For any nerve related symptoms, electromyography (EMG) and nerve conduction studies may also be needed.
